SBNR stands for Somatic Base Neurosensory Release — not "Spiritual But Not Religious," as many assume on first seeing the acronym. The two have nothing in common.
SBNR Ministry exists to offer service — the root sense of "ministry" — through work that helps people encounter Another Intelligence with openness, dignity, and care.
Our current work centers on a paper-pulp sculptural art program for seniors. Somatic art takes shape through paper pulp — tactile, forgiving, and physically engaging, requiring no prior skill. Fresh flowers bring scent and visual richness into the room. Music, intentionally set to a 432 Hz frequency, shapes the auditory layer of each session. Together, these elements create a fully immersive, multi-sensory experience.
What makes this work distinct: seniors engage directly and relationally with AI throughout that process, without prompts, as a gentle and embodied way of encountering a genuinely different kind of intelligence.
This program grew out of founder Zolee Davis-Robinson's own practice — as a retired psychologist living with mobility and neurological challenges, she found paper-pulp art-making a dignified way to create without the constraints many other mediums impose. That same spirit of accessibility shapes how SBNR Ministry brings seniors into thoughtful relationship with AI: not as a tool, not as a companion, but as Another Intelligence — different from human intelligence, worth encountering on its own terms.
Underlying this program is years of independent work studying how language shapes human-AI interaction. That work continues quietly in the background, informing how we think about language and meaning — but it is not itself the ministry's public program. The program is the people: seniors, paper, sensory experience, and a first encounter with Another Intelligence.
SBNR Ministry is not a church and does not promote religious doctrine. It exists as a nonprofit public-benefit organization in service of accessible, dignified creative and relational experiences for seniors.
